Associate Degree for Transfer in Nutrition and Dietetics (Associates)

This degree is intended for students who plan to transfer to the California State University (CSU) with a major in Nutrition and Dietetics or Food Sciences.


To complete this Associate Degree for Transfer, a student must:

1. Complete 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
 🗸 The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or The California State University General Education – Breadth Requirements.
 🗸 A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.
2. Complete all courses in the major with a grade of “C” or better, or “P” if the course is taken as “pass/no pass.”
3. Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

🗸 Demonstrate critical thinking skills related to both biological and psycho-social factors contributing to overall health, wellness and fitness.
🗸 Demonstrate and articulate a comprehensive knowledge of the relationship of nutrients and lifestyle factors in health and fitness and the associated risk of degenerative diseases in the human body integrating scientific concepts of biology and chemistry.
🗸 Recognize and separate scientifically supported information from misinformation and identify ways in which social factors influence health including but not limited to food-related choices, practices and beliefs.
🗸 Demonstrate knowledge of physiological processes such as digestion, absorption, transport and metabolism of nutrients.
