This in-person course is designed for students seeking a career in the healthcare field with an emphasis on optometry and eye care. Eye Care Technicians are part of the vision care team. They work with the optometrist to assist patients with front-office customer service, pre-testing evaluations, and eyewear selection needs. This course is the first step on your career ladder to becoming an Optician, Frame Stylist, or Paraoptometric Coding Specialist. Students who are interested in the optician assistant program will learn clinical, customer service, sales, and eyewear styling skills, and how to work with ophthalmologists and optometrists. Students who complete this course will have the opportunity to participate in an optician assistant externship to get hands-on practice. This course will prepare students for the anatomy/physiology portion of the National Optician Competency exam administered by the American Board of Opticianry (ABO).
Medical Terminology Fundamentals course is highly recommended.
