The Lifeguard Professional Certificate of Completion is a noncredit certificate designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. Successful completion of this certificate will provide the necessary training to be certified as an American Red Cross lifeguard. A certified lifeguard may work in parks and recreation, public swimming pools including educational settings such as schools, private athletic clubs, or as swim instructors. Lifeguard positions require excellent observation and communication skills along with confidence, self-control, and patience.

 

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS PROGRAM, STUDENTS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO:

🗸 Assess an emergency situation for safety of the aquatic environment for both rescuer and patrons.
🗸 Qualify for Red Cross certification in lifeguarding, community CPR, and responding to emergencies.
🗸 Perform life-saving skills of airway management, CPR, and use of the AED.
